A Waltham Forest, Antigua & Barbuda and Dominica Twinning Association event for Black History Month 2026: Honouring Our Communities.

Do you speak Creole (now Kwéyòl in Dominica and St. Lucia)?  Whether you speak it fluently or just understand it a little then come to the launch of Let’s chat Kwéyòl!

For people who came to Britain from Creole-speaking countries such as Dominica, St. Lucia and Mauritius they may have continued speaking the language and passed it on to their children. However, there are many who have lost the ability or did not learn it at all. For Black History Month 2026 and beyond the Twinning Association will be honouring those who brought the language to our communities.

This event takes place during Dominica’s annual Kwéyòl/Creole week, so participants are encouraged to wear some madras. This launch will be followed by monthly sessions from 21 November.

If you only understand it a little, then you will get help to understand more and grow confident to speak it. Families are encouraged to come along – places are limited so please book ahead!

The WFTA is part of the William Morris Community Residency.
