Teachers will have the opportunity to develop practical making skills inspired by Bauhaus design ideas supported by Blackhorse Workshop artists. There willl be a particlar focus on metalworking techniques accessible to schools. Blackhorse Workshops have created a metalworking toolkit for teachers to take away.
This course introduces a design challenge project for secondary students inspired by the William Morris Gallery's Pioneers: William Morris amd the Bauhaus exhibition and also the 1960s Pop Art design exhibition DANAD Design:1958-62 to be held at One Hoe Street in February - April. A project brief will be set to complete in school and there will be an opportunity for a selection of resulting work to be exhibited in early May at our new contemporary exhibition space One Hoe Street.
DANAD Design presents a selection of works from the recently rediscovered archives of this collective of painters, designers and architects who blurred the traditional boundaries between fine art, craft and design in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Textile designer Barry Daniels (DAN) and illustrator Tom Adams (AD) set up the collective in 1958, joined by artists Robin Denny and Bernard Cohen, graphic designer Edward Wright, architects Peter Adams and Colin Huntley and, most famously, Peter Blake. Other creatives such as Sylvia Plath, Ted Hughes, Jimi Hendrix, Ossie Clarke, Ken Russell and many more were also associated with the collective.
