Kelmscott Manor, the Morris family’s countryside retreat, was a subject May Morris returned to throughout her life. This watercolour was painted when she was in her twenties, after undergoing formal art training at the National Art Training School in South Kensington, London. The view shows the beautiful sixteenth century Manor through the doorway of an old barn on the property.
