This course will look at the diverse influences on William Morris's designs, patterns and techniques such as Islamic art and block printing. We will explore how various repeat patterns are formed - for example through symmetry, rotations and half-drop design. Some of these techniques are still being used in present-day fabrics and wallpapers. Participants will then end up with a completed pattern piece either on paper or fabric using lino stencilling. This course will cover learning outcomes linked to Art & Design, Design and Technology and Maths. Both primary and secondary teachers are welcome.
