John Ruskin, ‘The Nature of Gothic’ and William Morris

William Morris Birthday Lecture

Morris’s work as craftsman, designer and employer was inspired by Ruskin’s essay, 'The Nature of Gothic'. In this lecture Clive Wilmer will argue that Ruskin had identified "a new road on which the world should travel"– a road that led, for Morris, to political and social revolution.

Clive Wilmer has published eight volumes of poetry. He is editor of the current Penguin edition of William Morris: News From Nowhere and other Essays.
