Family Day: Arabian Nights

  • 22 February 2014
  • 13:00 - 16:00
  • Free, drop-in event for families of all ages.

On the last Saturday of every month we pack the gallery full of fun activities for families to make and do together. Each event includes a make and take so you can remember your special day.

This month, join bloodthirsty kings and a magic lamp as we journey through One Thousand and One Nights, a collection of ancient folk tales from west and south Asia loved by William Morris.

This month's activities

Illustration station: ‘The Enchanted Horse’

Families will make silhouettes to illustrate this story from the Arabian Nights.

Make your own film soundtrack: ‘The Adventures of Prince Achmed’

Create your own live soundtrack to Lotte Reiniger's pioneering 1926 animation based on the story of Prince Achmed from One Thousand and One Nights. The film is rated PG but has been edited for use at family day.

Arabian Nights story corner

We'll have a vast array of adaptations and retellings of the Arabian Nights for you to read by yourself or together. Many of these have amazing pictures to illustrate the story.
