Why volunteer?

At the William Morris Gallery there are lots of opportunities to volunteer for anyone aged 18 and over. Whether you want to learn a new skill, get some experience to add to your CV or do something valuable for the community in your spare time, volunteering could be for you. You do not need to have any experience of museums and galleries to volunteer as our programme caters for everyone from beginners to experts.

Who volunteers?

Our volunteers are engaged in a variety of roles working both with the public and behind the scenes helping us to care for and promote our world-class collection of objects. They are a dedicated, friendly team who all make an important contribution to the Gallery. Maybe you could be an Activities & Events Volunteer, getting involved with some of our events and sharing your passion for art and culture with participants, or maybe you would like to help look after the beautiful gardens at Vestry House Museum and become a Garden Volunteer?

As a volunteer you will receive access to free training and advice to enhance your skills.

How to volunteer

You can apply to be a volunteer during one of our recruitment periods which take place roughly twice a year. The recruitment period begins with the Volunteer Open Days where you can drop-in, meet the team and talk about the roles on offer in an informal setting. If you wish to apply you will need to complete an application form based on a specific role that has been advertised. If you meet the basic requirements for the role you will have an informal conversation with a member of staff about your application before we allocate the teams. The volunteer programme is open to all and includes a variety of roles for people with and without experience of museum work.
