I am delighted to welcome you to the new William Morris Gallery.
The William Morris Gallery has for too long been an unsung asset. As the only public gallery devoted to Morris, it holds a stunning collection which has international significance. The aim of our Development Project has been to create a home for Morris’s life and work which properly befits his continuing cultural importance across the globe.
William Morris was born in Walthamstow in 1834 and the London Borough of Waltham Forest remain the proud custodians of his legacy. In the year that our borough hosts the Olympics, our pride in the past is matched only by our determination to bring Morris’s work to a new audience.
Along with our ongoing commitment to running the Gallery, the borough has matched the £1,500,000 investment made by the Heritage Lottery Fund to modernise and extend the Gallery. A separate multi-million pound project has upgraded Lloyd Park, the grounds in which the Gallery sits.
The generosity of individuals, trusts and foundations has been overwhelming. We are extremely grateful to all those who have already helped us raise over £1,400,000 in donations so far, including the Friends of the William Morris Gallery, who have been supporting the fundraising efforts. We are now seeking support from individuals and businesses for our final fundraising phase, so please support us if you can.
